Spherical and Cylindrical Bearing

Spherical and Cylindrical Bearing
Applicable Standard: IRC:83-2018 (Part III), MORTH Specifications, equivalent to EN 1337-7
Spherical bearings employ a curved PTFE-stainless steel interface machined to a spherical radius to accommodate rotation about any axis within a single component, along with a flat or curved sliding surface for translation, as covered under IRC:83-2018 (Part III). Cylindrical bearings are provided where rotation is required about a single axis only, typically for long-span and major river bridges.

Parameter Specification / Typical Range
Design Vertical Load Up to 50,000 kN, as per structural design
Spherical Radius As per project-specific design
Rotation Capacity ± 0.04 – 0.05 rad (higher than pot bearing)
Sliding Material PTFE or composite high-load, low-friction liner
Mating Surface SS304/316, mirror polished
Base / Piston Forged or cast steel conforming to IS:2062
Coating System Metallizing with epoxy top coat as per IS:1477

Key Features

Accommodates large rotations in a compact unit
Suited to high load, long-span major bridges
Manufactured as per IRC:83-2018 (Part III)

Typical Applications

Long-span river bridges
Cable-stayed / extradosed bridges
